Clinic Policies

Blue Diamound Medical

At Blue Diamond Medical we endeavour to provide exceptional care to all our patients in a timely and efficient manner. In order to do so we ask our patients to contribute by adhering to the following policies: 

Appointments

We strive to keep all appointments running to schedule which benefits the patients and the doctors. To that end please ensure:

  • You arrive on time (patients more than 5 minutes late will not be seen and will have to rebook at the doctor’s discretion)
  • You bring your Alberta Healthcare Number with you to all appointments.
  • You allow ample time for your concerns. Standard appointments are normally 15 minutes in duration. Usually, this is enough time to cover 1 major or 2 minor health concerns. If you have more concerns please feel free to contact the clinic at least 48 hours in advance and we will try to book you a 30-minute appointment, or you can book a second appointment if you wish.
  • You confirm your attendance in advance. We use a messaging service to remind all our patients of upcoming appointments. Please follow the link in the phone or email message to confirm or cancel your appointment. If you fail to attend your appointment, despite receiving a reminder no no-show fees will be applied. 
  • You update the front desk to any changes in your personal information including phone number, address, email, etc.

General Conduct

We provide a polite, friendly, and caring manner to all who enter our clinic. We also expect the same in return. Any rude, aggressive, or bullying behaviour will not be tolerated and will lead to your removal from the premises and discharge from the clinic. Undesirable behaviour over the phone will result in the termination of your call without warning and your discharge from the clinic. 

Prescription Refills

Please note any prescription for a new medication can only be done at an “in-person” visit. Please book an appointment with your Family Doctor to discuss any new medication you need.

If you are applying to renew an existing prescription please call your pharmacy and ask them to fax a “Renewal Request” to us on 825 413 1333. This will result in your medications being renewed (at the doctor’s discretion) within 2 business days.

If you have run out of your medication before it is renewed you may ask the pharmacy for an “Extension” of your medications. This will allow your pharmacist to give you 2 -3 days supply while the renewal is correctly processed. You are of course welcome to book an appointment with your Family Doctor to renew your prescription also.

Test Results

We offer a secure messaging service to communicate results and messages to patients from the Doctors. Please let us know if you would like to opt out of this system. We do not communicate results via insecure email at all. 

Referrals and Investigations

All referrals and investigations (including X ray, MRI and Ultrasounds) can only be applied for by your Family Doctor and as the result of an “in person” visit to discuss your concern. No referral or investigation can be applied for without the patient having been seen by the Doctor. 

Telephone Consultations

These occur at the individual Doctor’s discretion and must be booked in advance, the confirmation and no show fees apply to these also. 

Uninsured Services

A number of services your Family Doctor provides are not covered by Alberta Health Services please see our uninsured services page for the complete list. All fees must be paid in full before the documents can be released. 

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is both a priority and a legal requirement. As such we will not share any information with any third party without your express written permission. This includes insurance companies, lawyers and other medical clinics.
