Some services your family doctor provides are not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). All fees must be paid in full before documents are released.

Uninsured services under Alberta Health

Under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP), medically necessary physician visits are covered. However, certain services your family doctor provides are not insured by Alberta Health. These are called uninsured services, and clinics must charge fees for them.

Uninsured services typically include

Completion of forms
Insurance, disability, school, fitness, parking placard, and other required forms.
Certificates and notes
Medical certificates, physician notes, letters, and other requested documentation.
Driver’s medical examinations
Medical assessments and documentation required for driver licensing purposes.
Cosmetic procedures or procedures that are not medically required
Procedures requested for cosmetic purposes or other purposes that are not medically necessary.
Administrative tasks
Record transfers, photocopies, document preparation, and related administrative services.
Certain treatments or injections
Treatments, injections, or related services that are not covered by AHCIP.
